What’s the first step when starting to answer one of the later MAT questions, even if you don’t think it is??
Consider the relevance to the previous part of the question.
What is $$\sigma^{m}_{k=0} 1$$??
$$ m + 1 $$
How many different values can $k$ take on in the interval $0 \le k \le m$ (if $m$ and $k$ are both integers)??
$$ m + 1 $$
If asked about the combined combination of some assignment of variables, where each variable limits the values the next one can take on, what notation can you use to represent this??
Sigma notation.
